The DAC, Digital Audio Converters changes digital signals into analog. A special high quality IC power supply reduces noise. New DAC output filters with JFET and op-amp use a new phase rotation to a higher frequency expanding bandwidth for better sound quality. Decodes 192k 24 bit. Plays native DSD Direct Stream Digital Super Audio CD files without down conversion.

It is a 3 zone receiver, so you can configure the amps to drive Zone 2 and Zone 3. But, you could configure it to do a Dolby Atmos system with 7 ear level speakers with 4 in ceiling Atmos speakers and still power another zone.

Due to size or placement problems center speakers often don't keep up with the main left and right. So, this Sony allows you to use two center speakers. Plus, the DSP function allows you make the center appear higher to match your TV.

A New Level Room Correction for the Ultimate Sound Immersion
Sony first developed for the Pro Audio world, decades ago, room EQ. Almost all home AV receivers now include a mic and send test signals to measure room acoustics and make adjustments. Sony takes it to a new level and one way they do this, is having you do some basic measurements instead of the mic. A green line appears across the center of your TV and you MEASURE the distance to the floor. You measure the distance to your ears at the listening position and you measure your ceiling heigth. Then a STEREO MIC does a set of measurements facing forward. Then you rotate the mic on its stand, and do another set of measurements. And, instead of a cardboard mic stand a solid plasstic, rotatable stand with a camera tripod screw on is provided. The results is you don't hear sounds coming from speakers, but a room full of , "you are there" movie sound and music. Sony calls this Digital Cinema Auto Calibration IX.

New 360 Spcial Sound Mapping
With the success of surround sound, music produces are gong back to original master tapes, and using special new recording studios to re-record and remaster music recordings, including classic rock albums into a new surround sound format called 360 Special Sound Mapping. Apple Music has albums available in this format and using the advanced Digital Auto Calibration IX creates a 3 dimensional sound field that puts you in the concert hall.
