OUR FIRST SPEAKERS
JANSZEN ELECTROSTATIC
One of the hottest speakers
when Alterman Audio opened for business in 1973 was the JBL L100.
It featured a foam grille with many squares. JansZen was a very
obscure company that copied that modern, high tech design in the
early 1970's. But, behind the speaker grille, or round 3 dimentional
grilles are the black square electrostatic elements shown above.
An electrostaticspeaker offers the advantage of ultra low moving
mass, push-pull operation with a moving force applied over the
entire moving surface. We sold hundreds of pairs of electrosatic
speakers in the 1970s, and early 1980s. I still use me JansZen
electrostatics today. The first invoice we ever received from
JansZen invoiced us with the name Brontosaurus Sound in 1972.
